Citizen’s Police Academy is a multi-faceted educational program designed to provide members of our community with the opportunity to gain specific knowledge about the philosophy and processes of the Tuscaloosa Police Department, as well as valuable insight into the field of law enforcement. CLASS SIZE IS LIMITED TO 20 STUDENTS.
LEA Training Opportunities
the Tuscaloosa Police Department offers a variety of classes to officers from outside law enforcement agencies to help those officers learn new skills and to maintain their APOSTC CEUs.
Threat Assessments
The Tuscaloosa Police Department offers threat assessments for local schools, businesses and places of worship. This service is provided free of charge for citizens of Tuscaloosa.
Fingerprinting for the Public
The Tuscaloosa Police Department offers live scan fingerprinting to the public for job applications, school requirements, etc. in the front lobby of Tuscaloosa Police HQ (3801 Trevor Phillips Ave, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401)
Bring any blank fingerprint cards and instructions you have been provided by your agency/employer.
Tuesdays & Thursdays 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Citizens Firearms Familiarization Class
This free class is offered numerous times a year on Saturdays at the Tuscaloosa Police Firing Range. Class includes a 2 hour lecture on weapon safety, responsible gun ownership and other topics as well as one-on-one training with a TPD firearms instructor.
Active Shooter Response Training
An active shooter incident can happen in any place at any time. The best ways to make sure you and your loved ones stay safe are to prepare ahead of time and be ready. Register yourself or your business for active shooter response training and TPD's trained instructors will conduct a training session at your preferred location at no cost.
Tours and Public Speaking Requests
The Tuscaloosa Police Department offers public speakers and free tours of police headquarters, and other police facilities, to schools and community groups.
